48 Hour Field Trip: Where History Lives

With spring break on the horizon, there’s never been a better time to escape to charming Charleston for some educational fun. Whether your family is embracing adventure learning or simply looking for a way to unwind together, Charleston is home to some of the nation’s most fascinating history and ecosystems.

Day 1:

Start the day with a delicious (and filling!) breakfast in The Palmetto Cafe before setting out on a historical adventure. Enjoy a boat ride to Fort Sumter – the famous Federal port in Charleston Harbor where the American Civil War began.

In the afternoon, let us pack a perfect picnic lunch for you to take to Fort Moultrie, located on nearby Sullivan’s Island. Constructed of Palmetto logs, it dates back to 1776 and has seen action in numerous skirmishes. Afterward, enjoy your lunch on the beach of Sullivans Island.

Head back downtown for the afternoon and grab some of The Charleston Place Hotel’s complimentary bikes to explore scenic downtown Charleston. End your evening with burgers and fish tacos at our sporting pub, Meeting at Market, Charleston’s best sports bar.

Day 2:

Greet the day with the birds. The South Carolina Aquarium is home to a diverse population of Lowcountry wildlife, where you’ll learn about everything from bald eagles to octopus. The Aquarium is also home to one of the largest sea turtle rehabilitation hospitals in the country, offering a lesson in coastal conversation and development.

Climb into an aircraft and admire incredible views of the Charleston Harbor from the deck of the USS Yorktown. Located at Patriots Point, its home to a submarine and the Medal of Honor Museum, too.

Then, return to your home away from home at The Charleston Place. Laze away the rest of the day by our rooftop pool, savor delicious cuisine at one of five on-site restaurants or simply unwind in your spacious accommodations.

Located in the center of historic Charleston, there’s something for everyone this spring break. Allow our team to customize the perfect excursion for you and your family.
